4U: A Symphonic Celebration of Prince

4U: A Symphonic Celebration of Prince at Assembly Hall at Cox Business Center

Why see 4U: A Symphonic Celebration of Prince?

Nothing Compares

The timeless music of Prince is reborn with this brand new touring spectacular. This estate-approved concert series will feature a full symphonic orchestra teaming up with a live band and vocalists to celebrate the singer's legacy, performing songs from one of music's greatest discographies.

Roots member and Prince super-fan Questlove has curated the setlist and helped with the arrangements. He's promised a mix of hits and deeper cuts, so both rabid and casual fans of the Purple One can appreciate the show. Expect to hear favorites including 'Purple Reign', 'Kiss', ' Raspberry Beret', '1999' and many, many more.

It was a fantastic show. The video production could be better but that's not why anyone went. ... Read more

I am writing this review as I was unsure to attend. I need reviews online to really gave me insight. SO! I give it a 5 for sure! If you are on the edge- go! The musicians were excellent! Any true Prince “Love” that has been to Prince’s concerts would say it was amazing and at the same time would be slightly unfair & judge too. The acoustics/microphone strained to magnify the musician’s unbelievable talent the way Prince did. When the concert started I became teary eyed and chuckled at myself as I realized I started comparing it to Prince's concerts & sound. I imagined Prince at rehearsal saying "No no no ~we need to fix this sound a bit before we go on the road.” It is not easy to play for Prince! I was in the 6th row in a very intimate setting & I could not see the sax, trumpets, French horns, key board, drummer. I was hoping they would be up on the screen a bit -but then I stopped myself & thought ~ok- maybe they are being discreet & Prince loved to show his musicians off – so there I went again & had to stop myself. If you purchase an upper mezzanine front row seat you will see all of the musicians perfectly- I highly recommend that. To answer the negative comments/reviews about the Purple Rain ending with bad pictures/video. I think the Prince estate blurred it on purpose – not sure why. (Note to Questlove -Stevie Nicks did an amazing Prince Tribute hologram pictures at her concert, maybe the Estate will approve using it). I am sure Questlove did not have much say on what the estate gave him. I loved the ending! I was too busy paying attention to the musicians and music. Thank you for your music selection Questlove- on point! I absolutely loved the choice of music. This was the first time I have been able to bring myself to attend anything since Prince passed April 21, 2016. I did not want a tribute, copycat, half of him or something not up to “Par”- I was afraid I would “ugly cry “the whole time or leave in” deep disappointment”. I did not! The instrumentalists were heart felt and they wanted us to celebrate Prince & not be sad for our deep deep loss. We all know Prince was not done yet and he had amazing things to do, give and create for us. I felt he was there with us shaking his head and I know I was having a beautiful time! I felt deeply connected to the artists on the stage by the end of the show. I even wore my 1998 lilac purple gown with silk velour flower overlay and purple silk shoes. My son had a classic purple shirt on. 😊 I can tell you my 17-year-old son was my date and he loved it. I just a little 14-year-old girl who already loved” Little Red Corvette” & “I Wanna Be Your Lover” when “When Doves Cry “came out 34 years ago. Right then I made the real connection to who he was & that was it for me! Will never be anyone else like Prince! No other! Thank you to each & every one of the musicians & Questlove who gave me this night. I really hope you are having a beautiful time! Thank you for your Lovely gift. ... Read more
